Maldives travel guide for Indians (2026)

Free visa on arrival, one online form, and the question that decides the trip: which month.

Visa and entry for Indian passport holders

Free visa on arrival · 30 days

Indian passport holders receive a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival in the Maldives.

  • No fee, no advance application. Anyone charging a "Maldives visa fee" is misrepresenting the rule.
  • Complete the IMUGA Traveller Declaration online within 96 hours before arrival — and again before departure.
  • Carry a confirmed resort booking, return ticket and proof of funds; passport valid at least 1 month beyond the stay (6 months recommended for airline rules).

Getting there

Direct flights to Malé from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kochi and Chennai, 3–4.5 hours. The cheapest fares often route through Colombo. From Malé, resorts are reached by speedboat (20–60 min) or seaplane (daytime only — a late arrival may mean a night in Malé, which we plan around).

Airlines on the route: SriLankan (via Colombo), IndiGo and Air India (direct).

Questions we get asked about Maldives

Do Indians need a visa for the Maldives?

No. Indians get a free 30-day visa on arrival. Fill the IMUGA traveller declaration online before you fly.

How much does a Maldives trip cost from India?

Our 4-night package (2 nights beach villa + 2 nights water villa, full board, speedboat transfers) starts at ₹94,000 per person. Flights from Delhi were about ₹36,000 return in a November 2026 sample. Budget ₹1.4–1.6 lakh per person for a 5-day trip.

Best month for the Maldives?

November to April. December–January is peak and priciest; February–April has the calmest water.

Is the Maldives good for a honeymoon on a budget?

Yes if you pick the resort carefully. A 4★ resort with a water villa for two nights, full board, is the sweet spot — most of the postcard experience at a third of the 5★ price. Ask us for the resort options.

Do I need travel insurance for the Maldives?

Strongly recommended. Medical evacuation from a remote atoll is expensive; a basic policy covering ₹10–20 lakh medical and trip cancellation costs a few hundred rupees a day.
