Java: Yogyakarta & Bromo
Beyond Bali: Borobudur and Prambanan from Yogyakarta, then the sunrise over Mount Bromo that people cross the world for.
Day by day
- Day 1Arrive in Yogyakarta
Airport pickup and check in. Evening on Malioboro street.
- Day 2Borobudur at sunrise
An early start for the world's largest Buddhist temple, then the Sultan's palace and the water castle back in town.
- Day 3Prambanan
The Hindu temples of Prambanan in the afternoon light, with the Ramayana ballet in the evening if it is on.
- Day 4To Bromo
Train along the spine of Java to Malang or Probolinggo, then the drive up to the crater rim village. Early night.
- Day 5Bromo sunrise, on to Surabaya
Jeep to the viewpoint before dawn, then across the sea of sand to the crater. Drive to Surabaya.
- Day 6Fly home
Transfer to Surabaya airport.
