Leh Ladakh travel guide (2026)
A four-month window, a permit, and altitude that must be respected. Read this before booking.
Permits and ID
Indian citizens · Inner Line Permit for some areasNo visa, but Indian citizens need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri and other protected areas beyond Leh.
- The ILP is issued online by the Leh district administration or in person at the DC office. Our package includes arranging it.
- Carry a government photo ID (Aadhaar, voter ID or passport) — checkposts at Khardung La and Chang La check it.
- Leh town, Shanti Stupa, Thiksey and Hemis need no permit.
Best time to visit Leh Ladakh
June to September. Roads over Khardung La and Chang La are open, Pangong is blue, and days are warm.
November to April: extreme cold, the Srinagar and Manali highways closed, most hotels shut. Flights still land in Leh but the trip is a very different, expert-only one.

Getting there
Fly Delhi–Leh direct (about 80 minutes; morning flights only, weather-dependent). Or drive in over two days via Manali (Atal Tunnel–Sarchu) or Srinagar (Kargil), which helps with altitude. Our 6-night package flies in and builds in a full rest day on arrival.
Airlines on the route: IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara.
Questions we get asked about Leh Ladakh
Do I need a permit for Ladakh?
Indian citizens need an Inner Line Permit for Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri and the border areas; Leh itself needs none. We arrange it with your package.
Best time to visit Ladakh?
June to September. Roads are open, Pangong and Nubra are reachable, and days are warm. September has the clearest skies.
How do I avoid altitude sickness in Leh?
Rest completely on day one (Leh is 3,500 m), drink water, skip alcohol for 48 hours, and climb gradually — Nubra before Pangong. Our itinerary is sequenced that way on purpose. Consult a doctor about Diamox if you have concerns.
How much does a Ladakh trip cost?
Our 6-night package starts at ₹34,000 per person including permits, hotels, a private vehicle and the Nubra–Pangong circuit. Flights are quoted live; Delhi–Leh is usually ₹8,000–15,000 return outside peak.
