Andaman travel guide (2026)

India's clearest water, a permit that Indians do not need, and ferries that decide your itinerary.

Permits and ID

Indian citizens · no permit for the main islands

Indian citizens need no permit for Port Blair, Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil (Shaheed Dweep). Tribal reserves and some outer islands are restricted for everyone.

  • Carry a government photo ID — required for ferry tickets and hotel check-in.
  • Foreign nationals get a free Restricted Area Permit on arrival; this does not apply to Indian citizens.
  • Ferries between islands are the backbone of the trip and sell out; our package pre-books them.
